Lady Trojan volleyball team sweeps NGAC championships
The GLMS Lady Trojan volleyball team won its first North Georgia Athletic Conference tournament championship by defeating Lakeview in the finals on March 20. Gordon Lee had beaten Ringgold in the quarterfinals and Heritage in the winner's bracket finals to advance to the championship game for the second consecutive year.
The Lady Trojans had previously won their second straight regular-season championship and finished the year with a perfect 15-0 record, the first undefeated season for a GLMS volleyball team.
Six Lady Trojans recognized by NGAC
Six members of the Lady Trojan volleyball team received honors from the North Georgia Athletic Conference at the end-of-season awards ceremony. Kelsie Bickett, Sara Holder, and Jessica Powell were named to the NGAC All-League team. Bickett, Rachel Darr, Brandi Hearn, and Lexis Robertson were named to the All-Tournament team. Robertson was selected as the tournament's MVP.
2008 season updates
Mar 20 The Lady Trojans capped off a perfect 15-0 season by rallying to defeat Lakeview 20-25, 25-11, 26-24 in the NGAC tournament finals. Sara Holder led GLMS with seven aces and six kills. Jessica Powell finished with five kills. Rachel Darr added three kills and an ace while Caitlin Mitchell had three aces.
Mar 18 Gordon Lee rallied from a 24-18 deficit to defeat Heritage 26-24 in game one of the NGAC winners' bracket finals match, then won game two 25-20 to advance to the championship game for the second year in a row. Lexis Robertson won 10 points on serve, including seven points in the first-game rally.
Mar 15 The Lady Trojans beat Ringgold in three games to advance to the winner's bracket finals of the NGAC tournament.
Mar 11 Gordon Lee finished its season with a perfect 12-0 record by defeating Heritage 25-19, 25-23. Lexis Robertson won 11 points on serve. The JV team beat the Lady Generals 25-10, 25-18 as Kaylea Breeden and Caitlin Mitchell each served nine winning points.
Mar 8 The Lady Trojans knocked off Rossville 25-2, 25-13 to clinch their second straight NGAC regular-season championship. Kelsie Bickett won 22 points on serve, including 21 in a row. The JV team won 25-23, 25-17 as Holly Afman won 13 points on serve.
Mar 7 Gordon Lee swept a pair of matches. The Lady Trojans defeated Chattanooga Valley 25-3, 25-11 as Kelsie Bickett won 16 points on serve and Sara Holder won 11. GLMS beat Rossville 25-7, 25-3 behind 26 service points won from Holder and 14 from Bickett.
Mar 4 The Lady Trojans held off Ringgold 25-18, 23-25, 26-24. Jessica Powell had 14 service points won.
Feb 29 Gordon Lee beat LaFayette 25-15, 25-13. Brandi Hearn won 11 points on serve. The JV team beat the Lady Ramblers 25-13, 18-25, 25-23, behind 13 service points from Kelsye Mauldin.
Feb 26 The Lady Trojans improved their record to 6-0 with a pair of wins. GLMS topped Ringgold 25-21, 25-19, and beat LaFayette 25-17, 25-15. Sara Holder won 11 points on serve against the Lady Tigers while Lexis Robertson led Gordon Lee with 12 service points won against the Lady Ramblers. Brandi Hearn won 17 points on serve in the two matches combined.
Feb 23 Gordon Lee swept a pair of matches, defeating Chattanooga Valley 25-6, 16-25, 25-11 and knocking off Lakeview 25-18, 25-23. Kelsie Bickett served 27 aces.
Feb 22 The Lady Trojans beat Heritage 25-22, 26-24. Lexis Robertson won 12 points on serve.
Feb 19 Gordon Lee opened its season by rallying to defeat Lakeview 23-25, 25-18, 25-22. Kelsie Bickett had 12 aces, nine digs, and seven assists, Sara Holder had 12 digs and eight kills, and Jessica Powell handed out seven assists. The JV team lost to the Lady Warriors 12-25, 25-16, 15-11.
