Softball team wins NGAC league & tournament
The GLMS Lady Trojan softball team won its second consecutive North Georgia Athletic Conference regular-season championship on September 25 with a 2-1 win over Lakeview. Gordon Lee finished the season with a 7-0 record in league games, and has won its last 15 NGAC league games.
The Lady Trojans were the top seed in the NGAC post-season tournament. They defeated Rossville in the tournament's first round and Lakeview in the semifinals. Gordon Lee then knocked off LaFayette in two straight games in the NGAC championship series to win its first fastpitch tournament title.
Seven Lady Trojans honored by NGAC
Seven members of the Lady Trojan softball team received honors from the North Georgia Athletic Conference at the end-of-season awards ceremony. Catcher Kelsie Bickett, centerfielder Kara Goins, pitcher Brenna Nation, and third baseman Courtney Towns were named to the NGAC All-League team. Nation, along with shortstop Kendall Johnson, first baseman Lexis Robertson, and second baseman Sam Taylor were named to the All-Tournament team. Nation was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
2007 season updates
Oct 6 Gordon Lee won the NGAC tournament championship by defeating LaFayette 7-1. Kelsie Bickett led the Lady Trojans with a home run, a double, and three runs scored. Kara Goins and Kalei Kimbrell had two hits each, and Courtney Towns blasted a two-run homer. Brenna Nation allowed no earned runs in the win.
Oct 5 The Lady Trojans took game one of the NGAC championship series with a 10-0 shutout of LaFayette. Brenna Nation pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts to get the win. Two-run doubles by Courtney Towns and Jordyn Hamill, a two-run single by Sam Taylor, and a two-run triple by Lexis Robertson were the big blows for the GLMS offense.
Oct 4 Gordon Lee struck for four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Courtney Towns, and went on to a 9-2 win over Lakeview in the semifinals of the NGAC tournament. Kelsie Bickett, Brenna Nation, Lexis Robertson, Jordyn Hamill, and Kalei Kimbrell all had two hits for the Lady Trojans.
Oct 2 Brenna Nation, Brandi Hearn, and Sam Taylor combined on a four-inning perfect game as the Lady Trojans defeated Rossville 15-0 in the first round of the NGAC tournament. GLMS pitchers struck out nine of the twelve batters they faced. Eleven different players had hits for Gordon Lee in the onslaught.
Sep 25 Gordon Lee clinched its second consecutive NGAC regular-season championship with a 2-1 victory over Lakeview. Brenna Nation drove in the GLMS runs with a first-inning single and a third-inning double. Kelsie Bickett also had two hits for the Lady Trojans. Nation struck out eight in the win.
Sep 21 The Lady Trojans improved to 6-0 in NGAC games with a 10-0 win over LaFayette. Courtney Towns was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Kelsie Bickett had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, and Lexis Robertson had two hits and two RBIs. Brenna Nation was the winning pitcher, striking out 11.
Sep 18 Gordon Lee got first-inning RBIs from Kelsie Bickett and Courtney Towns, and Brenna Nation made the runs stand up in a 2-0 win over Heritage. Nation struck out 10 Lady Generals in the shutout.
Sep 11 The Lady Trojans beat Dade County 15-3. Kara Goins was 4-for-4 with two singles, a double, and a triple. Sam Taylor and Lexis Robertson had two hits each.
Sep 7 Gordon Lee defeated Rossville 11-1 in five innings. Kara Goins had a single, a double, and four RBIs to pace the GLMS offense. Brandi Hearn got the win, allowing only one hit and striking out six in four innings of work.
Sep 4 The Lady Trojans beat Ringgold 7-0. Courtney Towns was 4-for-4 with an RBI, and Brenna Nation had a double, and single, and three RBIs. Nation was the winning pitcher, striking out nine.
Aug 31Brenna Nation and Brandi Hearn combined on a five-inning no-hitter as Gordon Lee opened its NGAC season with a 13-0 blanking of Chattanooga Valley. Courtney Towns led the GLMS attack with 3 hits. Kelsie Bickett and Kara Goins had two hits each.
Aug 24 The Lady Trojans committed seven errors and lost a rain-shortened game to Lakeview 5-2.
