Softball team captures NGAC championship
The GLMS Lady Trojan softball team won its first North Georgia Athletic Conference fastpitch title on September 30 with a 10-0 win over second-place Lakeview. Gordon Lee finished the regular season with a 7-0 record in league games, and 10-0 overall.
The Lady Trojans entered the NGAC tournament as the #1 seed, and defeated Rossville in the tournament's first round and Heritage in the semifinals. Gordon Lee suffered two close losses in the finals, but claimed the tournament runner-up trophy to go along with the regular-season championship.
Seven Lady Trojans honored by NGAC
Seven members of the Lady Trojan softball team received honors from the North Georgia Athletic Conference at the end-of-season awards ceremony. Catcher Kelsie Bickett, pitcher Brittany Murphy, centerfielder Alli O'Neal, and third baseman Anna Quinn were named to the NGAC All-League team. First baseman Holli Brooks, shortstop Courtnee Hall, and pitcher Brenna Nation were named to the All-Tournament team. Brooks, Hall, Murphy, O'Neal, and Quinn are eighth graders, while Bickett and Nation are seventh graders.
2006 season updates
Oct 7 Gordon Lee could not overcome a four-run third inning by Lakeview, and fell to the Lady Warriors 4-3 in the second game of the NGAC championship series. The Lady Trojans finished the season with a record of 12-2.
Oct 6 Lakeview scored five times in the third inning and held on to defeat Gordon Lee 5-3 in game one of the NGAC championship series.
Oct 5 Gordon Lee rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to subdue Heritage 7-3 in the NGAC tournament semifinals. The Lady Trojans trailed in the sixth, but a walk to Courtney Towns, an error, and a bunt single by Lexis Robertson loaded the bases with no one out. A Lesslie Bohannon infield hit tied the game, then Kelsie Bickett singled to give GLMS the lead. Courtnee Hall capped the rally with a two-out, three-run home run.
Oct 3 The Lady Trojans posted a four-inning, 12-0 win over Rossville in the first round of the NGAC tournament.
Sep 30 Gordon Lee blasted Lakeview 10-0 in five innings. The Lady Trojans scored four times in the second inning on a two-run double by Holli Brooks and a two-run triple by Kelsie Bickett. GLMS then added two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to finish off the Lady Warriors. Brittany Murphy and Brenna Nation combined on the shutout. Gordon Lee ended the regular season with a 7-0 record in NGAC games.
Sep 29 The Lady Trojans defeated LaFayette 10-0 in five innings. Courtney Towns led the GLMS assault with two doubles and three RBIs. Brittany Murphy twirled Gordon Lee's fourth consecutive shutout to get the win.
Sep 26 Gordon Lee plated two runs in the first inning and Brittany Murphy made them stand up in a 2-0 win over Heritage. Kelsie Bickett scored the first run on an RBI triple by Courtnee Hall, who later came home on a groundout.
Sep 21 The Lady Trojans rang up their second consecutive shutout, blanking Dade County 10-0 in five innings.
Sep 15 Gordon Lee beat Rossville 19-0 in three innings.
Sep 14 The Lady Trojans defeated Ringgold 4-1 to move to 2-0 in NGAC play and 5-0 for the season. Anna Quinn drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out, sixth-inning double. Sam Taylor added insurance with a two-run double in the seventh. Brittany Murphy scattered seven hits to pick up the win.
Sep 8 Gordon Lee began its NGAC league schedule with a 5-1 victory over Chattanooga Valley. Brittany Murphy allowed only two hits and struck out four. Kelsie Bickett led the Lady Trojans at the plate with two doubles. Courtney Towns, Courtnee Hall, Lesslie Bohannon, and Murphy also hit two-baggers.
Sep 1 The Lady Trojans scored 11 first-inning runs on the way to a four-inning, 14-0 defeat of Rossville.
Aug 29 Gordon Lee improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Chattanooga Valley at Frost Stadium. Courtnee Hall had a single and double and Anna Quinn also had two hits to lead the Lady Trojans' offense. Brittany Murphy was the winning pitcher, giving up only three hits while striking out four in six innings. Brenna Nation pitched the seventh to get the save.
Aug 22 The Lady Trojans opened their season by beating Dade County 13-3. The team pounded out five triples in the win.
