Gordon Lee wins NGAC Championship
The GLMS football team won their second NGAC championship in four years when they defeated Ringgold 24-18 on Thursday, October 23. Chris York scored his second touchdown of the game with just over a minute to play to give Gordon Lee the victory. The Trojans had also defeated Ringgold for the title in 2000.
Jacob Groce scored with two seconds left in the first half to give the Trojans a 16-6 lead at halftime. Ringgold was held to -22 yards rushing in the half and scored their only touchdown on a return of a Trojan fumble.
A fumble recovery in the end zone by the Tigers cut the Trojan lead to 16-12, and Ringgold scored again with only 2:30 remaining in the game to go ahead 18-16. Groce returned the ensuing kickoff to the Tiger 23 yard line and the Trojans drove from there for the winning score.
Michael Tillison led the Trojans on defense with 15 tackles. Jake Compton added 8 stops.
Five Trojans named All-League, York MVP
Running backs Jacob Groce and Chris York, end Jered Hogan, lineman Jake Compton, and linebacker Michael Tillison were named to the North Georgia Athletic Conference All-League team at the league's annual awards ceremony Thursday, October 23. York was additionally honored as the league's Most Valuable Player.
2003 Season Updates
October 23 - Chris York scored with just over one minute remaining in the game and Gordon Lee turned three two-point conversions into the margin of victory as they defeated Ringgold 24-18 in the NGAC championship game. York scored two touchdowns and all three conversions for the Trojans.
October 9 - Gordon Lee finished the regular season with a 36-6 win over Dade County. The Trojans finished in second place in the NGAC and will play in the championship game October 23.
October 2 - Gordon Lee defeated LaFayette 30-0.
September 30 - The JV team lost to Chattanooga Valley 24-8.
September 25 - The Trojans scored two second-half touchdowns to break a 16-16 halftime tie and defeat Lakeview 30-16.
September 23 - The JV team lost to Lakeview 14-8.
September 18 - Ringgold scored 22 first quarter points and held on to hand the Trojans their first loss, 22-14.
September 16 - The JV team fell to Ringgold 44-0.
September 11 - Gordon Lee defeated Rossville 22-16. Chris York scored with 1:06 to play to cap the Trojans' 16-point rally in the last four minutes.
September 9 - The JV team battled to a 0-0 tie with Rossville. Tres Scoggins led a strong defensive effort for the Trojans.
September 4 - The Trojans opened their season with a 28-26 win over Chattanooga Valley in triple overtime.
