Trojan Pride is School Wide!

GLMS wrestlers sweep NGAC championships

The Gordon Lee Middle School wrestling team capped off a perfect 14-0 season by winning the 2008 North Georgia Athletic Conference Duals tournament and the NGAC Traditional tournament, both held at Heritage. The Trojans previously won both titles in 2005.

GLMS defeated Rossville, Ringgold, and LaFayette to win the Duals crown.

Gordon Lee won the Traditional tournament championship by outscoring runner-up LaFayette 247-192.5. The Trojans had five individual champions and four second-place winners. One wrestler finished third and three finished fourth.

Murphy, Veal selected to All-District Band

GLMS eighth-graders Brandon Murphy and Trevor Veal have been selected to the 2008-2009 All-District Honor Band. Both also qualified for the second round of tryouts for the All-State band, which will be held January 10.

GLMS ranked fifth in state in writing

Gordon Lee Middle School had 90.8% of its students Meet and Exceed the standard on the 2008 Georgia Writing Assessment, the fifth highest percentage in the state. The Georgia state average for the "Meets and Exceeds" category is 77%.

GLMS also had the fifth fewest students in the "Did Not Meet" category, and Chickamauga City Schools was one of only six systems in the state with fewer than ten percent of students not meeting the standards.

Superintendent Melody Day was pleased with the results and said, "Writing is definitely a target area for us and a part of each school's school improvement plan. We have planned, evaluated, developed strategies, and committed to improve by writing across the curriculum—not just in English classes. We can all be proud that our efforts are yielding great results, but the best news is that our students are receiving focused instruction and achieving more than ever before."
