Coming back from Thanksgiving break we finished up our study of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Floppy folder work packets over Europe's geography and culture were turned in Thursday. Between now and Christmas break we will be focusing on our Europe government and economic standards. We began this by learning about the European Union which is both a political and economic organization of European countries. There are several links on the Social Studies Link page that will take you to sites about the EU; some of those links lead to interactive games.
Friday we began our European Countries Brochure Project. Each student will be researching a European Country and completing either a paper brochure or powerpoint. Projects are due Monday, December 15. There is a link under Classroom Downloads to the instructions for this project.

Progress Reports were sent home Wednesday. Along with the progress report, students recieved a grade report from me showing them all of their social studies grades up to this point. Be sure progress reports get returned to your advisor!
Last week we finished up our group projects and biographies of the presidential candidates by voting in our own election on November 4th. Since the election, we have resumed our study of Europe. We have geographically compared the countries of Russia, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany.
This week took our 3rd map test over Europe concentrating on physical features. We have been learning about environmental issues in Europe, including air pollution in the UK, acid rain in Germany, and the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. Tri-fold brochures over these issues should have been completed today.
Next week we will be looking at the culture of Europe, including religion and language.
