2009-2010 season updates

Feb 20 Gordon Lee placed second in the State Traditional tournament by scoring 191.5 points, its highest total ever. Senior Taylor Pace won his second individual championship with a victory at 135 pounds, while fellow senior David Berry and freshman Alex Spires captured their first titles with wins at 215 and 112, respectively. The Trojans had two other finalists in freshman Mika Clark (103) and junior Trevor Jones (130). Jacob Bryson (119) and Austin Goodlet (160) each placed third while Caleb Guthrie (189) was fourth. Bret Bradford (145) took fifth while Drew Russ (125) placed sixth.

Feb 16 The Trojans finished second in the Area 1-A Traditional tournament and qualified 13 wrestlers for the state meet. GLHS had three individual champions in Alex Spires, Taylor Pace, and Bret Bradford. Trevor Jones, Austin Goodlet, and Caleb Guthrie each placed second while Mika Clark and David Berry were third. Other state qualifiers were Jacob Bryson, Josh Elliott, Drew Russ, Matt Brooks, and Will Berry.

Feb 1 Gordon Lee closed out its regular-season schedule with a 52-21 win over Ringgold. Seniors Bret Bradford, Taylor Pace, Austin Goodlet, David Berry, and Caleb Guthrie all collected pins in their final dual match for the Trojans.

Jan 23 The Trojans edged Heritage 165-163 to claim the championship of the Murray County Invitational. Taylor Pace and Austin Goodlet each won his weight class while Trevor Jones and David Berry finished second. Mika Clark, Alex Spires, and Josh Elliott all took third place. Jacob Bryson and Caleb Guthrie both placed fourth.

Jan 22 Gordon Lee beat Southeast Whitfield 52-22 then dispatched Dalton 50-25.

Jan 16 The Trojans fell to Bremen 44-27 in the championship match of the State Duals tournament.

Jan 15 Gordon Lee won its first two matches in the State Duals tournament. The Trojans opened with a 61-9 win over Holy Innocents' and then advanced to the state finals for the first time by defeating Commerce 55-16.

Jan 11 The Trojans finished second in the Area 1-A Duals tournament. Gordon Lee lost in the finals to Bremen 33-21 but came back to defeat Bowdon 42-22 to take the runner-up spot. GLHS had opened the tournament by whipping Darlington 72-12 and thrashing Turner County 66-18. Jacob Bryson, Taylor Pace, and Caleb Guthrie were each 4-0 in the tournament.

Jan 5 Gordon Lee won three matches in a quad meet at Southeast Whitfield. The Trojans defeated Trion 59-20 and Southeast 49-19 while shutting out Cedartown 78-0. Alex Spires, Taylor Pace, Bret Bradford, Josh Elliott, Austin Goodlet, Will Berry, and Caleb Guthrie all went 3-0 for the night.

Dec 30 The Trojans completed pool matches in the Spartan Super Duals with wins over Henry County (39-30) and Grissom, Ala. (48-21), but fell in the championship round to Jesuit of New Orleans 46-24. GLHS then dropped a 43-34 decision to Sonoraville to finish third overall.

Dec 29 Gordon Lee went 4-0 in pool play on the first day of the U.S. Army Spartan Super Duals at South Paulding High School. The Trojans beat Riverwood 39-32, Cass 42-30, Paulding County 48-33, and Alexander 66-15.

Dec 19 The Trojans won the Walnut Grove Invitational, finishing 10.5 points ahead of runner-up Fayette County. GLHS had three champions in Taylor Pace, Austin Goodlet, and David Berry. Alex Spires and Drew Russ each finished second while Paxton Byrd and Jacob Bryson took fourth.

Dec 12 Gordon Lee placed third in the 12-team Brett Warren Invitational with 146 points, trailing only Sonoraville (158) and LaFayette (155). Austin Goodlet was the only champion for the Trojans while David Berry finished second. Blake Clayton, Alex Spires, and Taylor Pace placed third. Bret Bradford took fourth.

Dec 5 The Trojans captured the team title at the Gordon Lee Invitational by scoring 252.5 points and placing 13 wrestlers in the top four of their weight class. GLHS had four individual champions: Austin Goodlet, Trevor Jones, Taylor Pace, and David Berry. Jacob Bryson, Josh Elliott, Blake Clayton, and Bret Bradford each finished second while Rick Yarbrough, Alex Spires, Matt Brooks, and Drew Russ all placed third. Kalen Bradley was fourth in his class.

Dec 4 Gordon Lee improved its dual match record to 16-1 by notching three more victories. The Trojans beat Ringgold 65-13, topped Tyner 72-12, and defeated Dade County 53-24.

Dec 1 The Trojans picked up a pair of wins, topping Central 46-29 and defeating Ridgeland 46-32. Trevor Jones, Josh Elliott, and Austin Goodlet had two pins each.

Nov 28 Gordon Lee finished second in the Eastside Duals. The Trojans pummeled Lithonia 72-12, took down Heritage-Conyers 46-30, and ended pool play with a 54-27 win over Clarke Central before losing to Ola in the finals by a score of 48-27.

Nov 24 The Trojans won the Newton Duals, defeating Lumpkin County 47-33 in the finals. GLHS had advanced to the championship match by beating West Forsyth 46-26, North Cobb 39-33, Eastside 66-15, and Johnson-Gainesville 60-18 in pool play.

Nov 20 Gordon Lee opened its season with a pair of dual-match wins. The Trojans dominated Armuchee 72-12 then rolled over Heritage 57-21.
