Winners of Seven Consecutive Region 6-A Championships

2009 season updates

Oct 24 Gordon Lee finished second in the state tournament for the fourth straight year. GLHS advanced to the state championship game by hammering Providence Christian 15-1 in the loser's bracket finals but came up short in the title game, falling to Eagle's Landing Christian 6-0. The Lady Trojans' final record was 31-4, and their winning percentage of .886 was the best in school history.

Oct 23 The Lady Trojans lost to Eagle's Landing Christian 5-0 in the winner's bracket finals of the state Elite Eight tournament.

Oct 22 Gordon Lee defeated Bryan County 1-0 in the opening round of the Elite Eight tournament. Brenna Nation got the win, striking out 10 in six innings of work while allowing just three hits. Jonia Taylor fanned two of the three batters she faced in the seventh to pick up the save. Holli Brooks plated the game's only run with a first-inning sacrifice fly. The Lady Trojans followed up with a 16-0 win over Savannah Christian. Sam Taylor was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Lesslie Bohannon also had two hits and drove in two runs. Kelsie Bickett, Haley Kokoszka, and Anna Quinn had two RBIs each. Jonia Taylor gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out eight in the shutout.

Oct 16 The Lady Trojans eliminated Holy Innocents' in two straight games to advance to the Elite Eight tournament in Columbus for the eighth straight year. Gordon Lee won the opener 14-0 in four innings, then took the nightcap 8-0 in five innings. Jonia Taylor threw the third consecutive no-hitter for GLHS in the first game, striking out eight. Kendall Johnson was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Lesslie Bohannon added a two-run homer. In the second game, Anna Quinn blasted a three-run home run to back the one-hit, seven-strikeout pitching of Brenna Nation. Holli Brooks drove in two runs in each game.

Oct 13 Gordon Lee swept two games from Fellowship Christian in the first round of the state tournament, winning by scores of 12-0 and 9-0. In the first game, Anna Quinn was 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Holli Brooks and Jonia Taylor had a pair of hits each. Kelsie Bickett, Haley Kokoszka, and Courtney Towns had RBI singles. Taylor pitched a perfect game, striking out 10 of the 12 batters she faced. In game two, Lesslie Bohannon was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Sam Taylor was also 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Chelsea Tarvin had two hits and one RBI while Quinn collected two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Brenna Nation pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Oct 3 The Lady Trojans won their final two regular-season games, sweeping Bowdon 9-1 and 6-0. Jonia Taylor allowed only one hit, struck out eight, and blasted a three-run home run to lead GLHS in game one. Sam Taylor was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple. Kendall Johnson added a two-RBI double. In the second game, Brenna Nation pitched a shutout with 13 strikeouts. Johnson was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Kelsie Bickett drove in two runs. Gordon Lee finished an undefeated season in Region 6-A with a record of 12-0.

Oct 1 Gordon Lee beat Bremen 8-0 in six innings. Jonia Taylor pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine. At the plate Taylor had two hits and two RBIs. Lesslie Bohannon also had two hits while Kendall Johnson and Holli Brooks drove in two runs each. The win clinched the top spot in the region for the Lady Trojans.

Sep 30 The Lady Trojans blanked Trion 9-0 in five innings. Holli Brooks was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Sam Taylor, Kelsie Bickett, Brenna Nation, and Anna Quinn had one RBI each. Nation was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits while striking out eight.

Sep 29 Gordon Lee routed Darlington 15-0 in three innings. Sam Taylor was 4-for-4 with a double, two triples, and four RBIs. Kelsie Bickett, Lesslie Bohannon, and Haley Kokoszka had two RBIs each. Jonia Taylor struck out six and allowed just one hit in two innings of work while Kalei Kimbrell fanned all three hitters she faced in the third.

Sep 25 The Lady Trojans won three times in the SCORE International Tournament. GLHS opened with a 5-0 win over Ringgold. Sam Taylor, Lesslie Bohannon, and Kelsie Bickett all had two hits. Jonia Taylor pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven. Sam Taylor had three hits in a 3-1 win over Cass as Bickett, Bohannon and Haley Kokoszka each drove in a run. Brenna Nation struck out seven and allowed only two hits. In their final game, a 3-0 win over Rockmart, Sam Taylor had a triple and two RBIs. Bohannon had the other RBI. Jonia Taylor gave up only one hit while striking out seven.

Sep 24 Gordon Lee scored three times in the top of the sixth inning to break a 2-all tie in its 5-2 win over Excel Christian. Sam Taylor was 4-for-4 with two doubles and the go-ahead RBI. Kendall Johnson and Kelsie Bickett had two RBIs each. Jonia Taylor and Brenna Nation combined to strike out 13 Lady Eagles.

Sep 12 The Lady Trojans defeated Hillgrove 4-0 and Blessed Trinity 4-1 in their final pool play games of the Cherokee Invitational, then blasted Dalton 10-2 in the semifinals and topped Eastside 5-1 in the finals to capture the tournament championship for the second consecutive year. Jonia Taylor and Brenna Nation each won three times in the tourney and gave up a combined 10 hits in the six games. Taylor had 27 strikeouts and allowed two earned runs while Nation fanned 20 and did not allow an earned run. Sam Taylor (11-for-18), Lesslie Bohannon (9-for-18), and Holli Brooks (7-for-18) swung the hottest bats for Gordon Lee.

Sep 11 Gordon Lee won its first two games in the Cherokee Invitational, shutting out Sprayberry 7-0 and blanking West Hall 8-0.

Sep 10 The Lady Trojans scored in every inning of their five-inning, 8-0 win over Mt. Zion. Kelsie Bickett led the attack with a double, a triple, and an RBI. Lesslie Bohannon also had two hits and an RBI for GLHS. Jonia Taylor picked up the win, allowing only one hit while striking out six.

Sep 8 Gordon Lee knocked off Bremen 8-0 in five innings. The Lady Trojans broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning. Holli Brooks was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for GLHS. Lesslie Bohannon and Sam Taylor also had two hits each. Brenna Nation allowed one hit and no walks and struck out six to get the win.

Sep 3 The Lady Trojans defeated Darlington 13-1 in four innings. Kendall Johnson was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Jonia Taylor and Courtney Towns had back-to-back home runs in Gordon Lee's nine-run fourth inning. Taylor was the winning pitcher, striking out six.

Sep 1 Gordon Lee got a two-out RBI single from Kendall Johnson in the bottom of the ninth inning to record a 2-1 win over Excel Christian. Brenna Nation retired the first 19 batters she faced before the Lady Eagles put together two hits in the top of the seventh to score a run. Nation finished the two-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Holli Brooks accounted for the Lady Trojans' first run with a second-inning home run.

Aug 27 The Lady Trojans defeated Trion 2-1 to improve their Region 6-A record to 2-0. Sam Taylor and Holli Brooks had two hits each while Jonia Taylor and Lesslie Bohannon had RBIs. Jonia Taylor was the winning pitcher, striking out eight. Brenna Nation recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.

Aug 25 Gordon Lee opened its region schedule with an 8-0 win over Mt. Zion. Brenna Nation and Kalei Kimbrell combined to pitch a no-hitter. Sam Taylor was 3-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs to lead the offense.

Aug 22 The Lady Trojans won two of three games in the LFO Invitational. GLHS lost to Ridgeland 4-0 but pounded Harris County 11-0 and Central, Carroll 13-0. Sam Taylor and Holli Brooks each collected three hits against Harris County and Kendall Johnson added a three-RBI triple while Brenna Nation and Kalei Kimbrell combined on a no-hitter. In the final game Anna Quinn was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs. Jonia Taylor fired a two-hitter to pick up her first win of the season.

Aug 21 Gordon Lee split a pair of games on the first day of the LFO Invitational. The Lady Trojans lost 1-0 to Marist, the second-ranked team in Class AAAA, before bouncing back for a 5-0 shutout win over Dalton. Jonia Taylor allowed just an unearned run in the first game but took the loss. Kendall Johnson, Kelsie Bickett, and Chelsea Tarvin all had RBI hits in GLHS's five-run sixth inning against Dalton, and Taylor capped the inning with a two-RBI base hit. Brenna Nation threw a complete game with nine strikeouts to get the win.
