2006 season updates
Nov 17 Gordon Lee saw its season end with a 36-22 loss to Hancock Central in the first round of the state playoffs. The Trojans led 15-12 entering the fourth quarter, but 24 unanswered points by the Bulldogs gave them the victory. GLHS finished the year with a record of 8-3.
Nov 10 The Trojans clinched second place in Region 6-A with a 21-2 win over Trion. Matt Thornburg ran for 168 yards and a touchdown to lead the Gordon Lee offense. Patrick Mattos and Jacob Groce scored the other TDs. Michael Tillison led the defense with 12 tackles, while Jonathan Harding and Paden Harris each posted 10 stops.
Nov 3 Bremen took advantage of three first-quarter turnovers to jump to a 28-0 lead and went on to defeat Gordon Lee 49-20.
Oct 27 Gordon Lee beat Bowdon 14-7 in the region opener for both teams. Patrick Mattos broke a scoreless tie with a third-quarter touchdown and Matt Thornburg scored in the fourth to give the Trojans a 14-0 lead. Rob Crowder intercepted a pass to end the Red Devils' final threat. The Trojan defense held Bowdon to 95 yards of offense. Paden Harris led the defense with 13 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Michael Tillison had 12 tackles, and Kyle Armstrong added 10 tackles and a forced fumble.
Oct 13 The Trojans rallied from a 6-0 halftime deficit to defeat North Oconee 13-6 in their final non-region contest. Patrick Mattos and Matt Thornburg scored TDs for Gordon Lee. Kyle Armstrong and Michael Tillison led the GLHS defense with 11 tackles each, and Thornburg added 10 tackles and an interception. Armstrong and Zach Jarvis recovered Titan fumbles.
Oct 6 Gordon Lee led 21-0 after one quarter and 42-0 at the half, and cruised to a 49-22 win over Dade County. Matt Thornburg put the Trojans on the scoreboard with two first-quarter touchdowns, and Casey Vann added two rushing TDs and a pass for a score.
Sep 29 The Trojans held Ringgold to 128 yards of offense and shut out the Tigers 24-0. Matt Thornburg rushed 11 times for 131 yards and one touchdown. Patrick Mattos ran for one TD, threw for another, and added a 35-yard field goal and three extra points. Jacob Groce carried 9 times for 77 yards to bolster the GLHS attack. Rob Crowder, Michael Tillison, and Paden Harris had 11 tackles each for the Gordon Lee defense, and Lee Cagle added 10 stops.
Sep 22 Gordon Lee scored 36 unanswered points after Creekview had taken a 7-0 lead and defeated the Grizzlies 36-14. Matt Thornburg ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries for the Trojans. Patrick Mattos added 84 yards and a TD on eight runs.
Sep 15 The Trojans scored 28 first-quarter points on the way to a 45-7 victory over South Paulding. Gordon Lee's defense allowed the Spartans only 82 yards of offense for the game. Matt Thornburg scored two TDs for GLHS as seven different players put points on the scoreboard.
Sep 8 Ridgeland intercepted a Gordon Lee pass in the end zone with eight seconds to play to preserve a 21-14 win over the Trojans. Patrick Mattos accounted for 133 yards of total offense and scored once for Gordon Lee. Matt Thornburg ran for the other touchdown. Tyler Beesley led the GLHS defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.
Sep 1 Gordon Lee opened its season with a 42-21 beating of Model. The Trojans led 28-7 at the half, and 42-14 before a Blue Devil score with only seconds to play. Matt Thornburg ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns, and Zach Jarvis had two TDs, including a 90-yard kickoff return, for GLHS. Kyle Armstrong led the Trojans' defense with 13 tackles, while Paden Harris added 12 stops.
