The Gordon Lee Chapter of the National Honor Society is an organization whose intent is to recognize students who show achievement in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Membership through induction is open to all students in grades 10-12. An induction ceremony is held twice yearly to recognize and honor students who have met all four of the criteria.
The NHS seeks to be actively involved in service activities both in the community and at school.
The NHS meets monthly and elects its officers in September.
Qualifications for National Honor Society
For a student to be eligible for membership in the National Honor Society, he or she must be sophomore, junior, or senior at Gordon Lee High School.
Selection process
- The National Honor Society sponsor will obtain a list of sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have earned an average of 90 in core classes and have maintained a cumulative average of 90 in all classes.
- To determine eligibility based on service and leadership, the faculty council will review the service/leadership forms, completed by all students in advisement groups, for those students who meet the academic requirements for NHS.
- Finally, the GLHS staff at large will be asked to provide insights into each student’s character through a teacher evaluation sheet (scored 1-4). The high and low score will be eliminated before the character rating is determined.
Students who receive grades below the academic requirement, miss meetings (unexcused), or do not participate in individual or club service projects can be placed on probation for a period of nine weeks. If the member does not correct the problem, he will be dismissed from NHS.
