A Tradition of Excellence Continues

Science Fair winners announced

Effects of Colored Light on Rye Grass

The 2008 Fall Semester Science Fair was held November 19–20 in the Ware-Jewell Activities Building. Kelsie Bickett, Courtney Towns, and Brenna Nation were awarded the fair's Sweepstakes ribbons.

Bickett received the first-place award for her project examining the effect of various colors of light on the growth of rye grass. She discovered that all the plants grew approximately the same height but had dramatic color variations.

Towns and Nation collaborated on a project that tested how quickly subjects of different ages could overcome the "Stroop Effect." They found that middle and high school students reacted quicker to color names written in a non-matching ink color than did elementary students or adults. Their project received the second-place ribbon.
