Big announcement made at Renaissance

Students worked all week prior to the Renaissance assembly trying to solve the Renaissance announcement mystery. From sound effects to 14,500 feet, the clues had many thinking there was an airplane involved.

Finally the announcement came from Mr. Sikes, “You do your best on the state testing and I will parachute out of an airplane! Do we have a deal?”

A handshake was all it took to seal the deal with student body representative Trent Beaty. Now it is up to the students and their efforts on the state test. Will he jump or not?

Be watching for another big announcement. Special guests will be on standby if the students hold up their end of the deal. You won’t want to miss this!

Officer Battles help fifth grade students make good choices

CES is pleased to have Officer Brad Battles from the Walker County Sheriff's Department helping our students in Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety (C.H.A.M.P.S.). Within the 10-week-long C.H.A.M.P.S. program, students discuss issues with bullying, child abduction, being at home alone, and drug awareness. We appreciate Officer Battles and the Walker County Sheriff's Department for all they do for our students and our community.

STOP… Don't Litter!

Recently the Kindergarten and first grade classes were treated to a great "Anti-Litter" presentation from the Chickamauga Women's Club. Ms. Joyce Harrison, Ms. Eulene Matthews, and club president Ms. Ginny Mason shared an entertaining skit of the woes of not taking appropriate care of the litter we must deal with on a daily basis. Everyone agreed that helping the Chickamauga Women's Club keep Chickamauga beautiful is something we can all do. Thanks, ladies for reminding us that together we can accomplish great things.

CES has 4H Club of the Month

A big congratulations to Mr. McDaniel's fifth grade homeroom for recently winning the distinguished Walker County 4H Club of the Month award. Criteria for the award centers around points for behavior, monthly activities, and signed newsletters. CES is proud of Mr. McDaniel and all his students.

Students victorious over teachers

On Thursday, February 16, CES teachers and students squared off in a friendly game of basketball. From the start, the students took the lead and increased their momentum as the teachers showed they were no match for their youthful opposition. Special guest "Stinky the Clown" provided his own variety of skill and strategies but nothing could help the teachers gain ground on the students.

At halftime, Mr. Sikes took on "Stinky" for a spirited game of "one-on-one." Obviously "Stinky" was not prepared for "Slam Dunk Sikes" as he was sent to the locker room in defeat.

The students held on to win the game but teachers and students alike agreed it was a great day. Everyone looks forward to the next matchup!

CES becomes a Clean Air School

Chickamauga Elementary School is proud to be part of the Clean Air Schools program for the 2010-2011 academic year, taking the lead to ensure students are empowered to make a difference for their environment. By learning to “repair the air” with no idling initiatives, promoting carpooling and alternative modes of transportation, and learning about the air we breathe through creative lesson plans, students become stewards for good air quality.
